- A Facebook post that went viral claimed that Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino has grabbed the credit of Manila Bay cleanup
- However, it has been discovered that the claim is false
- A spokesperson from Aquino’s office has already clarified the issue
A social media post claiming that Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV grabbed the credit of the cleanup project of Manila Bay went viral. However, KAMI discovered that the claim is false.
In a recent report by ABS-CBN News, a Facebook post that has been shared thousands of times showed a photo of Aquino allegedly claiming that he was the man behind the “Save Manila Bay” project that recently happened.
The post was published by a page supporting President Rodrigo Duterte. In the caption, it stated, “Dumali na naman si Boy Pagpag.”
“Enangkin muna lahat kilabutan kana man. Pagdating ng 2030 baka hindi na Philippines ang Pangalan ng bansa natn mga kah DDS Kundi Paolo Bam Aquino nah,” it added.
A French news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP), has conducted a reverse image search. According to them, the photo was fabricated.
The original photo was published through Aquino’s official Twitter account and Facebook page last October 18, 2018. The photo was used to promote Aquino’s fight to lessen the price of fuel in the country.
AFP was also able to get a response from Aquino’s media relations officer, Nicco Atos. It has been confirmed that they did not produce nor issue any campaign material to claim the Manila Bay cleanup.
"No. It was an edited version of one of our official posters that we released last October 2018. Here is the link of our original poster for your reference. As you can see, they've used the same layout and photo, but changed the text, ” Atos said.
In a previous report by KAMI, Aquino has filed his certificate of candidacy to seek re-election as a senator. Aquino is also a member of Liberal Party.
Born on May 7, 1977, Bam Aquino is a politician and social entrepreneur. He is the nephew of late Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and then President Corazon "Cory" Aquino.
