- However, it has been reported that the claim is false
A social media post claimed that India has declared a holiday in honor of President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit last January 2018. However, KAMI learned that this claim is false.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, the viral photos showed that President Duterte came out from a car with large crowds behind. The post was published on Facebook last January 27, 2019, and was shared thousands of times.
According to the misleading post, President Duterte was welcomed in India with a street party and not just with a red carpet.
However, when Agence France-Presse made a reverse image search, the photo of President Duterte coming out from a car was published by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).
According to the Presidential photo’s description, President Duterte arrived at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in New Delhi to attend the India Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2018.
The second photo in the viral post with large crowds was also posted by the PCOO. According to them, President Duterte was one of the distinguished guests to join the India Republic Day.
The India Republic Day is the celebration when India’s new constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950.
President Duterte was one of the 10 Southeast Asian leaders to attend the ASEAN Summit on January 25 to 26, 2018.
