A cop died, while 7 other policemen were injured when an explosion happened in Purok 4, Kabisig, Magpet, North Cotabato on Monday night. KAMI learned that the explosives used were believed to be landmines.
As reported by ABS-CBN News, 8 cops were in 2 patrol cars on their way to the Cotabato Provincial Mobile Force Battalion from where they conducted a checkpoint. When they arrived at the location at around 7 in the evening, the explosion happened.
The cop who drove the patrol car had severe injuries. He was brought to the hospital. However, he did not make it and was declared at 10 PM.
After the explosion, there was an encounter between the cops and alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA). One member of the NPA was killed, while the other one was injured.
According to the 19th Infantry Battalion of the military, the suspects were a father and his son.
The police were able to recover firearms, bullets, explosives, first-aid kit, and other documents.
It was the second time that the police and NPA had an encounter this week as reported by News5.
