President Rodrigo Duterte has visited the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulu where the twin bombings took place. KAMI learned that the President also visited the kin of the victims.
In a report by GMA News, President Duterte was accompanied by his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
President Duterte spoke before the crowd that was also surrounded by coffins. The explosions caused 20 deaths and more than 100 people injured.
As reported by Inquirer, President Duterte has ordered an “all-out war” against the terrorist groups to give justice to the victims of the twin suicide bombings.
“Basically, his marching order was all-out war [against] the terrorist groups. Run after those mass murderers and give justice to their victims,” Col. Gerry Besana of Western Mindanao Command said.
According to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, the investigators were treating the bombings as terror attack.
In a previous report by KAMI, the Islamic State has claimed the responsibility over the said explosions. However, the Armed Forces of the Philippines tagged the Abu Sayyaf as liable to the bombings.
KAMI also reported that the brother of an Abu Sayyaf leader was caught on surveillance lurking around the cathedral moments before the explosions happened.
