As reported by GMA News, the declaration became effective as of 12:01 AM, January 28, Monday.
According to PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Bernard Banac, they raised the heightened alert nationwide in order to prevent other similar attacks to happen in other regions in the Philippines.

The regional directors were also given the authority to raise their alert level in their respective jurisdictions if ever needed.
