A twin suicide bombing that killed at least 20 mass-goers happened in a church in Jolo, Sulu last January 27, Sunday. KAMI learned that Pope Francis, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and European Union strongly condemn the church attack.

In a report by Inquirer, Pope Francis expressed his “firmest reproach for this episode of violence.” The Pope also said that the “terrorist attack” that happened was the recent hit to the Christian community in the Philippines.

Pope Francis also prayed for those killed and injured due to the tragic incident on Sunday while he was still in Panama. He also called for peace and for the criminals behind this to change their behaviour.

As reported by GMA News, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau has expressed his side through Twitter over the attack that happened.

“An attack on people attending Sunday services is a despicable act of cowardice, and Canada strongly condemns today’s cathedral bombing in Jolo, Philippines. My deepest condolences to all the families affected by this tragedy,” Trudeau said.

"A human tragedy, this is also an attack against the basic right to practice one’s religion," EU spokesperson Maja Kocijsncic said.

However, the EU maintains their support on the Mindanao Peace Process and the plebiscite on greater Bangsamoro regional autonomy.

As previously reported by KAMI, an Islamic State group has claimed the responsibility over the twin suicide bombings in Jolo. However, the Armed Forces of the Philippines has tagged the Abu Sayyaf as the people behind the attack.
