- Pinoy radiographer came up with an idea of Lego open MRI scanner
- He aims to help the claustrophobic, anxious, and plus-size patients
- If he reaches 10,000 support votes, Lego will consider making it to production
Filipino senior MRI radiographer Apollo Exconde who is based in United Kingdom has come up with a creative idea of designing an open MRI scanner, making it the first in the world. It would cater to those patients who are first-timers, claustrophobic, young, anxious, and plus-size.
KAMI learned that Exconde is trying to address this issue “one Lego at a time.” Through Legos, Exconde was able to present how he visualizes the open MRI as well as how to easily explain the process and misconceptions to the patients.
"I am an MRI radiographer with special interest to claustrophobic and plus size patients who seeks for a way, a solution to help my patients conquer it one Lego brick at a time,” Exconde stated.
According to The Society of Radiographers, the Lego figures will be positioned in a wide unobstructed view for the patients to witness how they look when they are being scanned and would address other concerns or worries of the patients.
However, in order to make Exconde’s vision into reality, he needs the support of 10,000 people to register to the Lego website and vote. You may cast your vote in this link.
“I hope the world will help me to help all those who has scan related anxiety issues and the plus size to do their MRI,” Exconde said.
If Exconde’s idea gets 10,000 support votes, the Lego will consider making the open MRI into a reality.
Exconde has been trying to raise awareness with regard to his advocacy in claustrophobia and scan-related anxiety.
