- Some local celebrities aired their reactions about lowering the age of criminal liability
- Actor Dingdong Dantes said that he did not agree about the proposed law
- Even Jim Paredes, Juan Miguel Severo, and Ebe Dancel commented about the issue
The House of Representatives approved the bill seeking to lower the age of criminal responsibility to 9 years old. KAMI learned that even local celebrities and artists in the country shared their opinion regarding the issue.
In a report by Rappler, Kapuso actor Dingdong Dantes shared his opinion regarding the issue and that he disagreed with it. Quoting a tweet of Senate bet Chel Diokno, the actor said, “Crucial stage ang childhood and adolescence to one's development.”
“Instead of focusing on criminalizing children, the government should invest more on creating an enabling environment that will allow young people to be productive members of the society,” Dantes added.
Jim Paredes quoted the tweet of Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin and said, “This is disgusting.”
Poet and actor Juan Miguel Severo couldn’t contain his feelings and said, “GIGIL NA GIGIL AKO.”
On the other hand, OPM singer Ebe Dancel said, “What were you doing when you were 9 years old?”
As previously reported KAMI, the senators shared their own opinions regarding the proposed law. Senators like Nancy Binay, Risa Hontiveros, and Senate President Tito Sotto did not agree to it. However, Senators Richard Gordon and Frank Drilon are keeping an open mind about it.
