- Vape is commonly seen as an alternative for tobacco
- However, the Department of Health gave warning in using vape
- They also shared that vape is not great alternative for tobacco
Smoking cigarettes is very rampant in the Philippines as well as using vape as an alternative. However, KAMI learned that vape is NOT a good alternative for cigarettes.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), vape still contains nicotine and it is addicting as well.
“Some people are trying to package it as a health alternative to tobacco or as a lower risk product compared to tobacco. Pero 'yong mga vape po are nicotine containing and are addicting,” Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo said.
“Pag nag-vape sila tapos later magiging addict sila sa nicotine at magiging tobacco smoker sila. So hindi po ito nakakabuti,” he added.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, Dr. Lulu Marquez explained the effects of vape in one's health.
"Vaping still introduces nicotine to your body... Nicotine still creates a wide range of health problems.," Dr. Marquez said.
"It will increase your blood pressure... it can stimulate your heart, ibig sabihin puwede kang magkaroon ng rapid heartbeat.
"It could even raise blood fat levels and it will actually constrict your blood vessels... you will have hypertension," the doctor added.
President Rodrigo Duterte already approved the DOH and Department of Finance’s proposed law to increase the excise tax on tobacco and liquors. Under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law (TRAIN), there will be a P35 tax increase in every pack of cigarettes as previously reported by KAMI.
The DOH also wants to regulate the use of vape in the Philippines.
“Kailangan ma-regulate siya for content at tsaka for safety,” said Domingo.
“Hinihintay po talaga natin 'yong batas kung paano ang registration tsaka regulation nila.
“Hindi po namin masabi kung ilan ang mga produkto at tsaka kung ilan itong mga outlet na naandyan po sa paligid,” Domingo added.
