- Another Maldives honeymooner bravely opened up about their experience when they snorkeled at the island
- She recounted how sudden big waves took her and her husband to the deeper portion of the sea where she almost drowned
- Her husband was able to grab her shoulder and they were able to make it back to shore
For so long a time, Hazel Ann Baria-Castelo did not talk much about her and her husband's experience during their stay in Maldives.
KAMI learned that when the news about the newlywed couple reached her, she felt that it was the ample time to share her horrifying experience in Maldives.
According to Hazel, she and her husband, John Darren Castelo, went to Maldives in 2017 for that lovely honeymoon.
So upon arriving, they immediately settled down and decided to swim at the beach. They didn't go far as they were just in front of their villa.
She said that the water was calm, however, just a few minutes later, big waves started to hit them.
Hazel even told Darren not to swim far as both of them didn't know how to swim.
She recalled the exact words she stated as, "Wag kang lumayo parehas tayong hindi marunong lumangoy."
In a matter of seconds, they no longer felt the sand and they panicked.
Waves were getting stronger and she could hear Darren shouting at her, "FLOAT!"
She started praying and soon she felt her husband's hand on her shoulders and they were back at the shore.
Hazel said God saved them that day, a miracle in fact.
Albeit, there was no certainty as to what happened to the recent newlyweds who drowned in the island, Hazel and Darren's experience may have shed some light as to what may have transpired that fateful day to Leomer and Erika Joyce Lagradilla.
