- Cong. Lito Atienza said that President Rodrigo Duterte will not succeed in attacking the Catholic Church
- He suggested that the President should focus on giving better lives to the Filipinos
- Despite his support to the President, Atienza urged people to speak out when the President is doing something wrong
Senior Deputy Minority leader and Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza shared his side regarding the on-going tirades of President Rodrigo Duterte against the Catholic Church.
KAMI learned that for Rep. Atienza, the Church “cannot be destroyed” as reported by Philippine Daily Inquirer.
“The Church cannot be destroyed. Many have tried but failed. I’d rather that the President devotes his time to giving Filipinos a better life and I want him to succeed in that,” said Atienza.
“Huwag niyo pong maliitin, insultuhin, at ilagay sa kapahamakan ang ating mga pari at obispo. I believe in my faith and I will continue defending my faith,” he added.
According to the congressman, he supports the administration’s anti-narcotics campaign and the increase of military and police salary. However, he encourage people to “speak out against him when he is wrong.”
“We in Congress must stand and prevent the continuing efforts to destroy the foundations of our Church. What will succeed in the end is still the will of God,” Atienza stated.
In a video by PolitikoTV Channel published on January 15, Atienza said that President Duterte will not succeed by picking on the Catholic Church.
“I am scared of the future. Nakatatakot po na ang ating hinaharap at ng ating Pangulong Duterte ay medyo may kadiliman.”
In a previous report by KAMI, the Presidential made a controversial remark when he said that “tambays” should “rob” and “kill” the rich bishops. Ever since then, President Duterte was not scared to air his criticisms against the bishops and priests of Catholic Church.
