Celebrities dominated counselors’ race

Several celebrities turned politicians managed to get their horses in the tight race of counselors in their respective places according to the latest unofficial tally by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

First-time candidate and It’s Showtime host Jhong Hilario of National People’s Coalition (NPC) is currently leading the counselor race in Makati City.

Despite it being his first time to run, Hilario is not new in the world of politics as his father, Virgilio Sr. served as the city’s councilor for nine years. In an interview with ABS-CBN, Hilario credited his father as his main inspiration to run for the council seat.

Also running for a council seat in Makati City is novelty artist Rico J. Puno of NPC who is currently third in the counselors who garnered votes.

If elected, this is Puno’s fourth term, having served the city from 1998 until 2007. He ran for vice-mayor back in 2010 but lost to Romulo “Kid” Pena.

Veteran actor Roderick Paulate is predicted to get re-elected as a counselor of 2 District of Quezon City as he is currently ranked 6 in the race.

Paulate, however, was removed from the last Jan. 22 because of the recorded ghost employees under his office.

GMA 7’s talent Charee Pineda of Liberal Party seems to get another term as Valenzuela City’s counselor as she is in 7 place of the counselor race.

Singer/actor Lance Raymundo of NPC is on the 9 place in the counselor race in San Juan City.

James Reid’s ex-girlfriend and member of the duo Krissy and Ericka Ericka Villongco, however, is still hanging by the thread as she is ranked 13 in the same race with Raymundo.

In Paranaque City, Vandolph Quizon of Liberal Party is currently 5 in the counselor race while independent candidate Jomari Ylana is at 7 place.

The official canvassing and proclamation of winners in the polls will take place from May 13 to 15.
