The half-Pinoy Hollywood actor Darren Criss was awarded as the Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie, making him the first ever Fil-Am to win a Golden Globes, a prestigious awarding ceremony in United States. KAMI learned that Criss won his award for his performance in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”

“This has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I am so enormously proud to be a teeny tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu that dreamed of coming into this country and getting to be invited to cool parties like this. Mom, I know you're watching this,” Criss said as reported by ABS-CBN News.

“I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you. Congratulations to all of you. This is totally awesome!” he added.

Born on February 5, 1987, Darren Everett Criss’ mother is from Cebu. He said that being half-Filipino is one of his favourite things about himself.

Criss also won an Emmy award as the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for the same show, making it the first as well for a half-Pinoy actor.

Making rounds in the Golden Globes this year as well was the ”Bohemian Rhapsody”, a biographical film of iconic British rock band Queen.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” won as the Best Drama film. Meanwhile, the lead actor Rami Malek, who starred as the band’s lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury, won as the Best Actor in a Drama film.
