Vice President Leni Robredo called out President Rodrigo Duterte due to his controversial joke regarding his alleged molestation of their made. KAMI learned that for VP Robredo, the remark of Duterte has normalized abuse.
Robredo shared on her radio program, “BISErbisyongLENI” that the President should be careful with his jokes as reported by Philippine Star.
“Sana iniisip na... hindi naman masama magbiro pero may mga biro na hindi talaga dapat ginagawa,” she said.
“Yung pahayag na yun... nakakatakot na hindi naisip na napakarami nating mga kababayan na ang trabaho ay kasambahay sa ibang lugar at napakarami nang naitala na pang-aabuso sa kanila,” she added.
The Vice President also said that what President Duterte may normalize abuse against Filipino housemaids even internationally as reported by Inquirer.
“Parang ginagawang normal... Parang ginamit mo ito bilang isang biro o pahayag, parang nano-normalize yung isang bagay na napakasama,”said the Vice President.
“Sana hindi na ito mangyari muli” Robredo added.
As reported by KAMI before, domestic workers group and women’s rights advocates spoke up about the “joke” of Duterte. They said that they worry this might affect the relationship of domestic workers with their employers.
KAMI also reported that Duterte shared during his speech that he molested their housemaid during his teenage years. This drew flak to the netizens and gained criticisms.
