- He was accused of ordering the death of AKO Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe
- However, Baldo asserted his innocence while facing murder charges
During a press conference, Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo said that he is innocent after the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde accused him as “mastermind” of AKO Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe’s death as reported by Inquirer.
KAMI learned that Baldo is the political rival of Batocabe who are both running as mayor in the upcoming mid-term elections. Albayalde also tagged 7 suspects regarding the slain of Batocabe.
In a report by GMA News, the Daraga mayor asserted his innocence. He said that he is an easy target but he is not guilty of the crime.
"I assert my innocence. Let us not forget that while I’m being used as convenient scapegoat, those who are truly responsible for the crime remain free and blameless," Baldo said.
“I am an easy target but that does not make me guilty of the crime.I am already being persecuted in the courts of public opinion. I am a public servant at ang gusto ko lang naman po ay magsilbi,” he added.
As reported by ABS-CBN News, Albayalde accused Baldo for allegedly contacting 7 people to assassinate Batocabe for P5 million.
It has also been reported that the Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said that he will be revoking the authority of Baldo over the local police after facing charges of double murder.
