- The MMFF 2018 awards night was held on December 27, 2018
- Rainbow’s Sunset emerged with the most number of wins
- Some of the winners asked for fair treatment when it comes to the number of cinemas showing their movies
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2018 Awards Night was held last night at the The Theatre at Solaire.
KAMI learned that some of the winners aired out their grievances in their speeches.
Director Joel Lamangan, who won Best Director for the LGBT movie Rainbow’s Sunset, asked people in the movie industry to value the artistic side of making movies and not just its business side, as reported by PEP.ph.
"Sana naman, huwag lang komersyo ang kanilang isipin. Irespeto rin sana ng mga sinehan ang sining at industriya," he said.
PEP.ph also reported that a message from Mother Lily Monteverde and Roselle Monteverde of Regal Entertainment was also read, which is about giving the same number of cinemas to all MMFF movies.
There are reports that many cinemas are phasing out MMFF entries that are not blockbusters. The top 2 grossing movies nowadays are Vice Ganda’s Fantastica and Vic Sotto’s Puliscredibles.
Harlene Bautista, one of the producers of Rainbow’s Sunset, also asked cinemas to give more slots to the movie.
Rainbow’s Sunset was the big winner at the Awards Night as it won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
It also won acting awards for Gloria Romero, Aiko Melendez and Tony Mabesa.
