- According to a certain website, the Commission on Human Rights want to extend their help to the accused bully in Ateneo
- The post claimed that the accused needs more protection than the victim
- However, this claim has been debunked and CHR broke their silence about this issue
A website claimed that the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) allegedly offered to help the accused bully in Ateneo de Manila Junior High School. KAMI learned that CHR commented regarding this issue.
The website in philnewstoday.com with headline, “My God He’s Just a Kid: CHR ay Nag-aalok ng Tulong sa Ateneo Bulilit Star dahil sa mga bashers” claimed that a certain Atty. Edcel Bakunawa who referred to himself as spokesperson of CHR said in an interview with dzRH that they are willing to help the accused on December 22.
“The public should understand that he is minor and he is also protected by all the laws the land has to offer. My God he is just a kid and he doesn’t know what he was doing”, Bakunawa said according to the website.
“He needs protection more than the v*ct*m. There are hundreds and thousands of people who want to h*rt this kid and as human rights agency, this is our job”, he added.

However, according to Rappler, this claim is false and Bakunawa who claimed to be a spokesperson does not exist.
Through a text message, the CHR Chairman Jose Luis Martin “Chito” Gascon said that they only have one spokesperson and that is Atty. Jacqueline de Guia.
"By the tenor of the so-called interview, I have doubts that this had occurred. Still, in this case, we are concerned that the rights of all children involved are respected,” the chairman added.
The CHR also released an official statement through Facebook regarding the Ateneo bullying incident. They said that their statement calls for “protection for both minors”.
Even the dzRH told Rappler that the alleged interview was not on their news site nor any social media accounts. There was no record of dzRH having an interview with CHR on December 22.
In a previous report by KAMI, the “bully” Ateneo student who was caught physically attacking his schoolmate in a viral video got dismissed from his school. Even the Philippine Taekwondo Association recommended to ban the “bully” from their sanctioned events.
