President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Interior Secretary Eduardo Año to file charges against Guimbal town mayor Oscar Garin and his son Iloilo 1st District Rep. Richard Garin for physically attacking a policeman. KAMI learned that President Duterte is eyeing to file direct assault against the two.

"Kung may kasalanan man ang pulis it’s not a reason—especially a police officer—na bugbugin mo. I just read it from a newspaper. We will have to file a case. Direct assault," President Duterte said.

"We’ll file charges. I will ask General Año to take a look kung bakit nagka-ganun, investigate. I’m ordering him to file a case against the two. Yung-mag-ama ba yun? Sobra namang mag-ama,” he added.

It has been reported by ABS-CBN News that Mayor Garin and Rep. Garin, husband of former Health Secretary Janette Garin were accused of mauling a certain PO3 Federico Macaya while he was “disarmed, body-searched and handcuffed at gunpoint”.

In a report by Manila Bulletin, the younger Garin apologized for the incident.

“First and foremost, I ask forgiveness from the Philippine National Police (PNP) as an institution and also to the officers and personnel of the PNP, whom I have great respect,” Richard Garin said.

“I reiterate my apologies for my actions, which I take full responsibility.

“My actions were a mere display of extreme frustration towards one, single PNP personnel who committed great disservice to the people of Guimbal,” he added.

However, despite the apologies, Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao (PRO-6 director) said that he will not let this pass and that he will be taking actions against the accused.
