KAMI learned that father and son, Guimbal town, Iloilo Mayor Oscar Garin, and Iloilo 1st District Representative Oscar 'Richard' Garin Jr, respectively, are reportedly set to face criminal complaints.
Apparently, this news came after the Garins allegedly mauling a cop on December 26, 2018, Wednesday, as we first learned this report from Rappler.
Earlier, according to a police spot report, the Garin father and son reportedly summoned Guimbal cop Police Office III Federico Macaya at around 3:20 am, on the date mentioned.
In the said incident, the Garins "allegedly proceeded to disarm, cuff, and hold the cop at gunpoint," as to how the report stated.
The source news outlet states that the report apparently revealed that it did not say why the father and son Garin called the cop, or where the incident reportedly happened.
The police reportedly said:
“At that juncture, the suspects started to strike the victim in different parts of his body.”
With this, Western Visayas police regional director Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao reportedly expressed that "they will file a grave coercion complaint against the congressman and a grave threat charge against the mayor."
Bulalacao also reportedly recalled the police escorts of the two politicians.
In addition, Bulalacao is reportedly set to ask the National Police Commission to strip Mayor Garin of his police powers.
The latter, apparently allowed the mayor to deploy, choose or reassign police personnel in his area.
Chief Superintendent Bulalacao apparently added that he will relieve the police chief of Guimbal for allegedly "not taking action to help his personnel," as to how the report stated.
Western Visayas police regional director Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao reportedly said in a statement:
“I told Cong Garin that I'm taking this incident as an affront to me. I will not let this pass without taking action against them."
