Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as House Speaker
Before the 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte, it has been announced as the new House Speaker, replacing Pantaleon Alvarez. In a previous report by KAMI, such event was the first in the Philippine history.
Senator Antonio Trillanes’ amnesty revocation
President Duterte signed Proclamation No. 572 last September 4, announcing the amnesty of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as invalid in a previous report by KAMI. This act made the case about Oakwood mutiny and Manila Peninsula siege open once again. For the rebellion charge, Trillanes posted bail and for the coup d’etat case, the Makati court did not issue a warrant of arrest against him.
Sotto's proposed new line for “Lupang Hinirang”
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III proposed to change the last line of the Philippine national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang”. From “ang mamatay ng dahil sa’yo” to “ang ipaglaban kalayaan mo”. As previously reported by KAMI, Sotto said that the current lyrics is kind of “defeatist”.
Mocha Uson’s resignation
After being involved in many controversies like her federalism video “pepederalismo” and mocking the sign language with blogger Drew Olivar, former Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson resigned from her post in Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO). According to Uson, she “sacrificed” so that the budget of PCOO will be passed.
President Rodrigo Duterte’s only sin is “EJK”
During the speech of President Duterte, he said that he did not steal anything from the government nor prosecute anyone. Duterte said that his only sin was the “extrajudicial killing”. However, the Palace said that the President was just being “playful” when he mentioned this as reported by KAMI before.
Imelda Marcos found guilty
Former First Lady Imelda Marcos was found guilty by Sandiganbayan’s 5th Division. Marcos was given 7 counts of graft and corruption. She can face jail time for 6 years to 11 years.
President Duterte’s marijuana remark
In a speech, President Duterte said that he uses “marijuana” to keep him awake amid his busy schedule. However, he said that he was just kidding about it because he likes making jokes as reported by KAMI.
Former Senator Bong Revilla’s acquittal
Sandiganbayan has set former Senator Bong Revilla free of his plunder case after being detained for four years. According to the court, Revilla was “not guilty” for being involved in the alleged pork barrel scam.
