The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) posted on social media an update regarding the case of Taekwondo practitioner and Ateneo student involved in a bullying incident with another student caught in viral video. KAMI learned that the PTA’s ad hoc committee “recommends a sanction of an indefinite ban” to the Ateneo student “effective immediately”.

As reported by ABS-CBN News, PTA posted their announcement on Facebook. The association stated that the sanctions are “not limited to Taekwondo-related events, belt promotions, tournaments or facilities of member institutions effective immediately,"

The association also recommended that the Ateneo student must undergo counseling and rehabilitation “to allow the individual to own responsibility for his actions, show remorse and contribute positively to the community.”

Should the student or his family disagree with this, the PTA will expel the Taekwondo practitioner. The PTA will also evaluate the practitioner’s compliance with the rehabilitation program.

In a previous report by KAMI, the PTA broke their silence regarding this issue. They said that they “condemn” such acts like “harassment, bullying and acts of violence”. The also mentioned that they will be respecting the school’s disciplinary actions and would conduct further investigation.

KAMI also reported that actor and politician Monsour del Rosario said that the Ateneo student is a “FAILED representation” of Taekwondo. Del Rosario is also the PTA’s Secretary General.
