It has been reported that Indonesia opened a military base near the southern edge of South China Sea. KAMI learned from ABS-CBN News that the military base has 1,000 personnel on the remote island.

The military base is located in the middle of Natuna Islands between Borneo and Malay Peninsula. As said by Indonesian Defense Force chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, the main objective of the base is to protect their area for any potential security threats.

China acknowledged the sovereignty of Indonesia over Natuna Islands. However, they insisted that two countries have overlapping rights and interests over the island.

That claim of China was rejected by President Joko Widodo. He said, "When (such) a claim was voiced...I was really upset. I brought a warship to Natuna. If you want us to fight, together we will do it.”

Later on, some Chinese nationals who were fishing in the exclusive economic zone of Natuna Sea were caught by Indonesian authorities.

The TV crew was about to do an interview in Scarborough Shoal, claimed as part of the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone. However, they were told to seek a permit first from the Chinese government.
