- A Filipino member of the panel of judges in Miss Universe shared some details about the contest
- Richelle Louise Singson-Michael opened up about the rules that a judge should follow
- She also disclosed the steps they needed to take to uphold integrity
A judge in Miss Universe 2018 who happens to be a Filipino citizen willingly shared to public some undisclosed information about the prestigious pageant.
KAMI learned that it was architect and entrepreneur Richelle Louise Singson-Michael who revealed insider details specifically about the selection process.
She initially expressed that each judge is given a “profile book” which has the necessary information about all the candidates.
They were required to read all the contents stipulated in the books and also to take down notes to know the girls who are competing for the crown.
With regards to maintaining their integrity, each judge was prohibited to have a conversation with another member of the selection committee regarding a particular candidate.
Richelle even admitted that for confidentiality purposes, her notes were written in the Filipino language just so other people would not easily understand what she said.
“We (the judges) do not speak to each other about the contestants nor do we cross paths with them outside their turn during the competition. The selection process is quite consuming and I am proud to take this enjoyable job seriously,” she quipped.
“I have read all their bios and have written a fair share of notes on the profile book. (My notes are in Tagalog so that only I can understand),” she added.
Pursuant to the strict protocols of the Miss Universe Organization for the selection committee, the judges were housed in separate hotels to avoid contact with each other.
They were also given escorts in case they needed to go to a particular place to avoid interacting with other judges or candidates which may result to being unfair with the other girls.
”We stayed in a separate hotel; and during times we were in the same building such as during preliminary interviews at their hotel or at the arena, it was made sure that should any of us travel to the bathroom, we would be escorted to ensure that there were no contestants crossing,” Richelle explained.
“It would be an unfair advantage if a contestant would be able to greet us, have a chat with us or even smile at us up close and personal without giving the other contestants the same advantage,” she added.
Here is a video that showed the profile book given to her:
In a previous article by KAMI, a “native Vietnamese speaker” claimed that the translation of Miss Vietnam’s answer in Miss Universe 2018 was incorrect.
Richelle Louise Singson-Michael is the CEO of Architect and Platinum Skies Aviation who also helped in organizing Miss Universe when it was held in the Philippines in 2016.
