- Miss Vietnam rocked the universe with her strong performance during the prestigious pageant
- She also inspired other people with her rags-to-riches story
- But not everyone knows that behind her success was a Filipino team who helped her
Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie made noise in social media because of her strong performance in Miss Universe 2018 backed up by her inspiring story that moved a lot of people.
KAMI learned that the Vietnamese beauty queen gave her country its highest finish so far in the prestigious pageant as she qualified in the Top 5.
Although she failed to inch closer to the crown, a lot of netizens believed that she should be in the Top 3 and some considered her as a winner already because of her rags-to-riches story.
However, other individuals did not know that behind the trending success of Miss Vietnam was a Filipino team who helped her achieve her dreams.
This could be the reason why Filipino pageant fans admire her or will even double their admiration for the Vietnamese beauty queen.
One of the people who trained her was a Bicol-based pageant coach named Anjo Santos who also helped Venus Raj in her Miss Universe 4th Runner-up journey in 2010.
Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie did not forget to look back at the people who helped her in the tremendous success as she posted a message of gratitude to her coaches on December 13.
The beauty queen seemed to have established a good relationship with the Filipino coach whom she referred to as her “teacher.”
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much, My Teacher Anjo Santos,” H'Hen Nie wrote after the preliminaries.
Anjo, meanwhile, revealed in an interview with PEP.ph how he was tapped to train the Vietnam’s bet in the Miss Universe.
The coach expressed that he has been handling Vietnamese models and beauty queens since 2014 and it was this year when the national director, who happens to be his friend, assigned him to handle H'Hen Nie.
"I was taken 'cause I trained Vietnamese beauties since 2014 po. Then through the national director of Miss Universe Vietnam, my friend, they hired me to train her,” he stated.
"So yung mga kaibigan ko din sa Ho Chi Minh City na mga close ko ay nag-support to help kaya naging team po kami,” he added.
Anjo even shared that Miss Vietnam underwent a month of intensive training with him and he was able to teach the humble queen a lot of things regarding stage performance.
He also took the chance to describe how H'Hen appeared during the prestigious Coronation Night and explained his reaction when she finished in the Top 5.
"I handled her for a month. I covered poise, stance, and catwalk, and make-up tutorial. Then I designed a pasarela fit for her and the gown she will wear (the one with twist 360 turn)," he quipped.
"She was stunning, brave, and queenly but most of all down to earth. Naiyak po ako, siyempre, nagalak... Natuwa 'cause H'Hen has also a little mix of Pinoy blood," he added.
During the training, Anjo tapped the services of Gerard Ruivivar and Kim Rocafor, both Vietnam-based Overseas Filipino Workers, to prepare Miss Vietnam for interviews and the question-and-answer portion.
Here is a video of one of their training sessions:
In a previous article by KAMI, a Vietnamese “native speaker” criticized the translation of Miss Vietnam’s answer during the pageant night because some key words were allegedly missed.
Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie is a 26-year-old member of an ethnic minority group in her country. She used to serve food and clean houses before just so she could send herself to college.
