Netizens react to higher fines for illegal parking

- The MMDA announced that they will be imposing higher fines for illegal parking

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) increased the fines for illegal parking. KAMI learned that as per MMDA Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Celine Pialogo, violators will be receiving two written tickets such as illegal parking and obstruction.

As reported by GMA News, fines for illegal parking rose from P200 to P1,000 for those attended vehicle. For unattended vehicle, it was P500 to P2,000. And for obstruction, before it was P150 and it will be P1,000.

Pialogo also clarified that one motorists may be issued more than one ticket per day. Tickets will be issued with 3-hour intervals for the entire day.

She also made it clear that the ‘5-minute rule’ is an “unwritten rule”. The MMDA officers will be honking their horn every minute for five times and if ever the driver did not arrive, they will be issuing a ticket.

In a report by CNN Philippines, the implementation of this new regulation was moved to January 9, 2018.

As previously reported by KAMI, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian filed Senate Bill No. 201 or the Proof of Parking Space Act which seeks to ensure that car buyers must provide a proof that they have a parking space before buying a vehicle.
