- Social media posts claimed that Senators Risa Hontiveros and Kiko Pangilinan filed a bill to abolish the 13th month pay
- This claim was debunked by a French news agency
- The spokespersons of both senators commented regarding the issue
Many social media posts claimed that opposition Senators Risa Hontiveros and Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan filed a bill seeking to end the 13th month bonuses granted to employers. However, KAMI learned that this claim is false.
Facebook posts such as this and this showed their remorse regarding the claim which circulate online. They said that behind the bill was the Liberal Party (LP) headed by Pangilinan.
However, this post was debunked by French news agency, Agence French-Presse. AFP tried to search the mentioned bill in the Senate’s online archives. But, there was no bill filed in the 17th Congress to end the 13th month bonuses.
In a report by GMA News, the spokesperson of Sen. Hontiveros, Lui Belmonte, has made it clear to AFP through a Facebook message.
“Nope… no such bill filed,” said Belmonte.
In addition, the spokesperson of Sen. Pangilinan, Laconico Tancio said that the post was “not true”.
The main article was posted on the satirical website Adobo Chronicles on December 9, 2018.
In a recent report by KAMI, another fact check had been done by AFP. A Facebook post circulated online about Sen. Frankling Drilon sleeping through the UAAP Finals. AFP also debunked this post.
