“Kung nagtinding ka sa pulpito, tapos sabihin mo ako demonyo, e ano ka? Kung demonyo ako, kayo ano? Religious? You shape up,” said the President.

"Stay with God, pero huwag kayo magpaloko sa religion,” he added.

The President also commented about the relevance of the Bible nowadays.

“You know ang sumusulat ng Bibliya, anak ka ng. That was 3,000 years ago. Anong pakialam ng mga g****g yun sa ating buhay ngayon?" he asked.

“Nakapagaral ba yun? Mga UP writer ba yun? Three thousand years ago, tapos ngayon binu-b******t tayo," the President added.

As reported by Inquirer last June this year, the President quoted his favorite chapter in the Bible.

“If there’s a page in the Bible which I read almost every day, it’s the Ecclesiastes 3,” he said.

“’There’s a time to be calm, there’s a time to be silent, to be poignant, a time to be subdued, and a time to be vicious.’ Ganoon talaga ang buhay,” he added.

The netizens also shared their opinion regarding the statement of President Duterte. Here are some of their comments on the Facebook page of CNN Philippines:

“Ekonomiya at kurapsyon nalang po Mr President ang ayusin wag na po yang Bibliya tapos na po yang gawin.”
“ano kaya masasabi ni Manny Pacquiao dito”
“Tatay Degong i supported you wholeheartedly, i admired you with all my heart.... but please don’t quarrel with God and dont ridicule God and the Bible... that is a different thing... if you don’t like people from the church, God and His words are different from them... please stop being blasphemous...”
“Ang tanong ano gagawin ni Pacman ngayong Bible na tinitira ni Lolo digs hehehehe”
“He has a point tho... What do this saints have to with our lives today??? The Catholic church always calls on the saints today as if they were god even tho they are humans. He was not referring to the bible but he was referring to its writers, he is implying that the catholics used this so called saints to use as a propaganda. Do be honest, The church is always doing this things.”
“Many may not agree with his ways but this is something I can appreciate. A president not bound by religion.”

As previously reported by KAMI, President Duterte criticized the Catholic Church by encouraging people not to go to church and create their own chapel at home instead.
