- A photo condemning Mar Roxas in Tacloban surfaced online
- According to the viral post, it was an attack of President Duterte to Mar Roxas
- However, Agence France Pressed debunked the said post
A Facebook post went viral claiming that opposition Mar Roxas was being condemned in Tacloban City. KAMI learned from French news agency, Agence France Presse (AFP), that the photo was altered.
According to the Facebook photo, a sign says “No to Mar, Tacloban City.”
The actual posts may be found here and here.
The “Mar” stated was referring to President Rodrigo Duterte’s political foe and Senate bet Mar Roxas. Last 2016, Roxas joined the presidential race but lost to Duterte.
Tacloban City was lashed by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 when Roxas was still the Interior Secretary under the administration of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
In a report by AFP, the original photo was published at the GoAbroad website in 2013 and it actually stated “Welcome to Tacloban City”.
As previously reported by KAMI, Roxas vied for a seat at the Senate and filed his certificate of candidacy. This time, President Duterte has showed his support to the Senatorial candidate and actually encouraged the people to vote for Roxas.
