- Just days after President Duterte criticized the Catholic Church, Pope Francis had praised the Philippines
- He said that the country is one of the “great Catholic nations” in the world
- The Pope also think that governments have the duty to combat against drug traffickers
According to a Pope Francis, the Philippines is one of the great Catholic nations in the world. KAMI learned that the Pope stated it in a letter of appointment to Osaka Archbishop Cardinal Thomas Manyo Maeda.
In the letter, Pope Francis appointed the Japanese cardinal to attend the 60th anniversary of the Manila Cathedral. He also praised the Philippines in the said letter as reported by CNN Philippines.
"Indeed, the noble Church in the Philippines now stands among the great Catholic nations in the entire world. Hence, no wonder, she continuously sends missionaries to other regions,” said the Pope.
Pope Francis also called the Manila Cathedral as “mother and head of churches” in the country.
In a report by Inquirer, Pope Francis believed that governments are the ones in charge of fighting against drug traffickers. According to the Pope, he condemns “pathological forms derived from a secularized cultural climate, marked by the capitalism of consumption.”
The Pope also said that the governments should “face with courage this fight against the traffickers of death”.
As previously reported by KAMI, President Rodrigo Duterte threw tirades against the Catholic Church once again. He said that the teachings of the church are “archaic”. He also urged Catholic members not to go to church and pay for those “idiots” and build their own chapel at home instead.
