The community of the University of the Philippines (UP) as well as the netizens had called out the U.P. Board of Regents member Frederick “Spocky” Farolan after the official posted a controversial statement with regard to the UAAP Finals Season 81. KAMI learned that the UP community urges Farolan to resign from his post.
In a report by Rappler, Farolan posted an alleged threat to the basketball players of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).
“Sayang hindi kumpleto ang players ng Ateneo sa Wednesday. Tatlo injured. Pili na kung sinu-sino mga yon,” Farolan said in a now deleted Facebook post.
In a different post, Farolan explained why he took down his post.
“Anyway, deleted the post just in case some interpret it wrong,” Farolan said.
“Though saying talaga if any of the teams lack members this Wednesday due to injuries. Muntik nang mabawasan ng player UP dahil sa last game e. Anyway, sige focus on the good vibes na,” he added.
The President of UP, Danilo Concepcion said that UP disowns the post of Farolan for it does not reflect the values of the university.
"While this regent has deleted the post and has apologized for its contents, claiming that they were made in jest, I wish to make it clear the University of the Philippines takes these statements seriously and dissociates itself from the post and from the actuations of this regent, matters which I intend to take up with the Board of Regents," Concepcion stated.
"They do not in any way represent the values of the University, and the high esteem in which it holds sportsmanship, fair play, and civility in athletics as well as in other aspects of our academic and social life," he added.
