- Former first lady Imelda Marcos withdrew her candidacy
- She was eyeing a seat as the governor of Ilocos Norte
- However, her grandson Matthew Marcos Manotoc will be replacing her in the bid
Twenty days after the Sandiganbayan’s 5th division has found former first lady Imelda Marcos guilty for seven counts of graft and corruption, KAMI learned that Marcos withdrew her candidacy as governor in Ilocos Norte as reported by ABS-CBN News.
Instead, the son of incumbent Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos will replace the former first lady in the bid.
Matthew Marcos Manotoc was previously eyeing a seat as vice governor of Ilocos Norte. Meanwhile, Imee filed her certificate of candidacy to run as senator.
As previously reported by KAMI, the 89-year-old Marcos was sentenced for imprisonment which could last for six to 11 years for each count.
However, the Sandiganbayan had temporarily set her free as they decide on her post-conviction bail.
