President Rodrigo Duterte had launched his ‘Build, Build, Build’ program to construct more infrastructures all over Philippines. However, KAMI learned that many groups are against this program.

As reported by ABS-CBN News, around 300,000 families in National Capital Region (NCR) will be losing their homes if the construction pushes through. According to a resident named Luclia Cresines, she was advised by National Housing Authority (NHA) that their entire house will be destructed once the construction of North Luzon Expressway extension starts.

“Karapatan namin 'yon na manatili sa bahay namin dahil iyon, ipinundar ng ninuno ng mga tao diyan," said Emil Pineda of Sampaloc People’s Alliance.

“Sa’n naman kami pupunta? Mayro’n bang magandang programa ang gobyerno?” he added.

The said program will affect not just the informal settlers but also those who legitimately own the residence. Even the former undersecretary of Department of Social Welfare and Development opposes the program because it greatly affects the betterment of human capital.

As previously reported by KAMI, the target expenses for the program from 2017 to 2022 is around P8 to P9 trillion. The government had already spent P352.7 billion for ‘Build, Build, Build’ from January to June.
