- A photo of unused slippers supplied by Vice President Leni Robredo circulated online
- According to the post, the slippers were found at a rebel camp
- However, a French news agency denied this claim
A Facebook post claimed that there were unused slippers found at an abandoned camp of rebels or NPA. KAMI learned that the said slippers were allegedly given by Vice President Leni Robredo as reported by Inquirer.
The Facebook user was trying to point out the connection between VP Robredo and the rebels in the caption. She was also compared to Korina Sanchez-Roxas’ show Rated-K in ABS-CBN for giving away slippers.
“LOOK: Thousands of unused Robredo’s slippers found in abandoned NPA camp,” it stated.
“Si Leni pala ang distributor ng mga tsinelas sa mga Rebeldeng NPA. Kala ko si Korina Sanchez Roxas lang ang namimigay ng dilaw na tsinelas si Leni din pala! Nagpapatunay lang po yan na may kaugnayan si Leni sa mga NPA,” it added.
The claim was debunked by French news agency, Agence France Presse (AFP). According to them, the actual owner of the photo, Niño Jesus Orbeta denied the allegations against VP Robredo because the photo was taken during the birthday celebration of Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte in Quezon City last March 14, 2016.
Even the spokesperson of VP Robredo, Ibarra Gutierrez III, said that the post was “complete fabrication”.
In a previous report by KAMI, the AFP debunked another claim about the alleged “brand new” airport in Manila under President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration. AFP said that there is no new airport in Manila as of now and the photo that went viral was from China.
