- A social media post went viral about an allegedly “brand new” airport in Manila
- However, it was debunked by a French news agency
- They even verified the information with Philippine aviation authorities and gov’t’s official TV station
A Facebook post claims that the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte has made a new airport in Manila. However, KAMI learned from Inquirer that there is no new airport in Manila yet.
In a report by French news agency Agence France Presse (AFP), the post had a “misleading” headline. It stated, “Boom panis! Laos ang NAIA sa pinakabagong airport sa Maynila.”
In addition, the photo used in the report was from a “Chinese project by the international architecture firm Corgan.”
AFP also added that the photo was a proposed design for Northeastern Chinese airport in Dalian. Even the government’s official TV station, People’s Television Network, did not have any reports about a brand new airport in Manila.
The social media post went viral on the Internet. It garnered around 800,000 shares on Facebook as reported by ABS-CBN News. They also reported that as per Manila International Airport Authority, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport is the only airfield which operates in Manila.
As previously reported by KAMI, another claim was debunked by AFP. Another Facebook post claimed that late President Ferdinand Marcos held the Guinness World Records’ title for “Most Brilliant President in the History”. AFP reported that Marcos was instead listed in the “Greatest robbery of a government”.
