According to President Rodrigo Duterte, China’s President Xi Jinping is proposing to offer “bigger share” of West Philippine Sea to the Philippines when both countries conduct joint development. KAMI learned that the Philippine President also had exchanges with Xi.

“Ang tao naman basta ganoon ang paano mo, you remain meek and humble, eh 'yung ego niya, mag-start to, and then it turns to something basic like maaawa rin," President Duterte recalled.

For President Duterte, it is better to negotiate with China than to go in war with them.

“Sabi niya [Xi] sige, so we are now negotiating. Eh kaysa magkagiyera ako, sabi ko mauubos ang sundalo ko, pag-launch pa lang ng – alam mo, atin ito ganito kalaki, 'sus matamaan ito ng cruise missile, wala na, patay ang sundalo ko," the Philippine President stated.

In a previous report by KAMI, President Duterte commented on the South China Sea issue when he was at the 33rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits.

"I said China is already in possession. It's now in their hands. So why do you have to create frictions – strong military activity that will prompt a response from China?" Duterte quipped.

“I do not mind everybody going to war except that the Philippines is just beside those islands and if there's a shooting there, my country will be the first to suffer. That is my only national interest there. Nothing else," he added.
