The candidate of Cuba in Miss Earth 2018 bravely spoke up and refuted the claims of her fellow candidates that they were sexually harassed by a pageant sponsor.

KAMI learned that the girls from England, Guam, and Canada made separate confessions in social media that a sponsor asked them some sexual favors.

The accused harasser, whose name is Amando Cruz of Manila Yacht Club, allegedly asked for the hotels and room numbers of the candidates in exchange of having good results in the competition.

Miss Earth Cuba Monica Aguilar, however, defended the accused and claimed that there was no sexual harassment that happened in the month-long event.

She added that there were sponsors who offered other candidates to stay in the Philippines for quite longer to visit the Boracay island.

“I have read the ‘testimonies’ of several candidates complaining about supposed sexual harassment. I can confirm there was no sexual harassment happening in any shape or form,” the brave candidate wrote in a long Instagram post.

“But no one promised to get us further in the competition through ‘sexual favors.’ I don’t think an invitation to Boracay is sexual harassment!” she added.

Miss Cuba even emphasized that the ladies must learn to say “no” in cases that they feel are uncomfortable or unfavorable for them.

She also defended the team manager who was also blamed by the three complaining candidates for not responding to their allegations and just laughed instead.

“No matter where you go in life, these types of things happen but it is your responsibility to say no and walk away. After I said no thank you to the Boracay trip, the sponsor never bothered me again!” Monica explained.

“I felt extremely safe this entire month under the care of our team managers. They counted our heads before we went on the buses, at the venue, and before we got off the buses. They even made sure we had police escorts to go to the bathroom!!!!” she added.

In a previous article by KAMI, the sponsor who was accused of sexually harassing the girls finally opened up and expressed his side on the issue.

Miss Earth 2018 was the 18th edition of the environmental-themed pageant. Karen Ibasco of the Philippines crowned Nguyễn Phương Khánh of Vietnam as her successor during the competition which ended on November 3.
