After Miss Canada Jaime VandenBerg, Miss Guam Emma Sheedy, and Miss England Abby-Anne Gyles-Brown posted their unwelcome sexual advances allegations against some of the sponsors during the Miss Earth pageant, the newly crowned Miss World Philippines 2018, Katarina Rodriguez, has given her opinion about it.

According to her interview on PEP.ph, Katarina said that sexual harassment can really happen in pageantries.

“I think it’s not just beauty queens, but I suppose yes because beauty pageants are such a big thing.," she honestly answered.

To justify her opinion, the 26-year-old beauty queen and model named some of his friends who experienced the same thing such as Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, 26.

The Filipino-Italian model-beauty queen, Ambra, opened up in 2015 that she was sexually harassed by an American former film producer, Harvey Weinstein.

“I’m a good friend of Ambra Gutierrez. She inspires me a lot. She is one of the victims of Harvey Weinstein. She’s half-Filipina, half-Italian. I listened to her podcast and followed her story." Katarina confessed.

She also used Ambra's story to laud all women who have such braveness to tell their horrifying stories.

“She experienced it first-hand, multiple times, even as Miss Italy, Kasi she did Miss Italy. “But her story is so true and I hope the girls who do come out, they’re strong girls, who are wanting to speak up," Katarina added.

“I’d like to say na sana na lang that whoever speaks up... I completely commend them for speaking up, kasi medyo mahirap iyan.” She also said.

On the other hand, she also hopes that the Miss Earth candidates’ accusations are true.

“Sana it’s true. You only ever want to speak the truth, right?" She said.

The Miss Intercontinental Philippines 2017 also expressed that their experiences are truly scary and she would never want to encounter it.

“And the second thing—believing what they’re saying is true—it’s scary… it’s a scary thing to go through. I would not wanna go through that.”

Katarina is also aware of the instances that not all will believe such complaints. So she has given words to remember if anyone will go through it.

"Exactly. People might not believe them. It’s like the boy who cried wolf. Baka it’s from cases before, scenarios before."

"So my best advice is to be smart about it. Be smart on how you want to tackle the situation to regain justice or whatever your end goal is. Just be smart.” Katarina stated.

Katarina Sonja Rodriguez will compete for Miss World 2018 this coming December 8.

She also placed first runner-up when she represented the Philippines in Miss Intercontinental 2017

The Filipino-American model was a former MTV VJ and an athlete.
