- He accused the broadcasting network to be a fraud
- The renewal of ABS-CBN’s contract is still pending in the Congress
In a speech, President Rodrigo Duterte gave another threat to broadcasting network ABS-CBN’s franchise as to object the renewal of their contract as reported by GMA News.
KAMI learned that as per President Duterte, many were alleged victim of ABS-CBN for receiving payment but not airing the campaign ad.
“Kalakas ng loob… mukhang marami kami sila Chiz Escudero, tanggap nang tanggap. Niloko ninyo kami, marami hindi lang ako, kaya kayo hindi ko kayo palusutin,” Duterte quipped.
“Now, tell me, kung bakit hindi ako magalit sa inyo,” he also said.
In a report by Inquirer, the contract of ABS-CBN will be expiring on March 30, 2020. The renewal of contract is still a pending case in the Congress.
“‘Yung franchise ninyo matatapos na, but let me ask you [the] questions first, kasi ako talagang mag-object na ma-renew kayo,” Duterte stated.
However, ABS-CBN opted to give back the money to the President.
“They offered to pay and I refused to accept it because it was returned to me… proposed to return the money was too late after the election,” Duterte answered.
“When you do that to many people, it’s fraud. You’re actually a fraud when you actually received money and you don’t come up with your part in the bargain,” he added.
President Duterte also accused ABS-CBN for being “biased”. The owner of ABS-CBN, Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, defended that they were just doing their job and that they never encountered any administration who had problems with the media or in ABS-CBN.
