Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile has announced his plans for the upcoming election in 2019.
KAMI has learned from GMA News that Enrile has confirmed he will be joining the Senatorial race for 2019.
Through a phone call he said, “Yes, my lawyers will be filing my certificate of candidacy this afternoon.”
In the report, it was also stated that the 94-year-old former Senate President will be running as an independent candidate.
Enrile assumed the post being a senator back in 1987 to 1992, 1995 to 2001 and 2004 to 2013. He became the Senate President under the Arroyo and Aquino administration back in 2008 to 2013.
As reported by KAMI before, he stepped down from the office two years ago.
“I would say today, my last appearance in this chamber: old politicians never die, they will just fade away. My head was bloodied but never bowed,” Enrile said in his farewell speech.
