- Lapid shared that he wants to continue what he has done for the Senate
Former senator and ‘Ang Probinsyano’ actor Lito Lapid filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on October 15 (Monday).
KAMI has learned that Lito Lapid wants to finish what he started in the Senate.
“Wala ituloy lang natin yung dati natin… yung hindi natin natuloy,” he said as reported by Rappler.
Under the Arroyo administration, he was with Lakas-Kampi party. But now, he is with Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) party.
Lapid has served in the Senate for 2 consecutive terms from 2004 to 2010. He is known for “Lapid Law” or the Free Legal Assistance Act (RA 9999) which proposed to extend legal assistance to indigent people. He also authored the Biometrics Law (Senate Bill 1030), which required biometrics registration for all the voters. Lapid co-authored the Expanded Seniors Citizens Act (RA 10645) which was passed into law in 2014.
Lapid was also linked in the controversy regarding the fertilizer fund scam. In 2016, Sandiganbayan dismissed the graft case involving him. In 1992, he assumed the post of being Pampanga’s vice governor.
He started acting in the late 60’s and until now he can be seen on television as Leon in ABS-CBN’s Ang Probinsyano.
