- The said judge also hinted that Maria’s absence in the venue affected her performance
Filipina singer Maria Laroco’s dream of advancing to the live shows of X-Factor UK has come to an end after she got eliminated in a way that netizens described as heart-breaking and unexpected.
KAMI learned that the 17-year-old Pinay was chosen as one of Simon Cowell’s six finalists in the prestigious singing competition just a week ago.
However, Maria failed to secure a US Visa which hindered her from flying to Simon’s home for the Judges’ House showcase.
The young Filipina belter was allowed to perform via live stream but she later on received a call from her prominent judge saying that she did not make it to the next round.
Maria tried to impress Simon and the other celebrities who were watching her via flat screen TV as she belted out “California Dreaming” by The Mamas & The Papas.
Maria began her performance by thanking her judge for the opportunity and even expressed that she wanted to advance to the live shows.
“Hey Simon, thank you so much for the opportunity that you've given me. I don't want this to be my last performance. I want to be part of the live shows. Please, please, please, Simon, pick me,” she quipped.
After her performance, Simon hinted that Maria could have nailed it more if she was physically present in the venue because her absence affected the overall score.
Singer Paula Abdul also expressed that it was a different thing to perform while facing the judges and the audience from just having to sing via live stream.
"I feel really bad for her because she would have thrived in this atmosphere," Simon explained.
“It’s a whole different thing,” Paula added.

The day after the Judges’ House showcase, the Pinay singer received a heart-breaking call from Simon telling her that she had to bid goodbye to the show for now.
He also convinced Maria to come back and prove herself again in the next seasons.
“Well, the fact that you’ve got this far is a real achievement. You are a brilliant, brilliant singer and a great person. I’m just gonna tell you, Maria, you didn’t make it,” he said.
“I hate to tell you this in this manner. When you watch the show, you’ll understand how difficult this decision have been for me. And I have to say this, you have to come back again. Promise me you’ll come back,” he added.
