Following the resignation of multi-awarded filmmaker Erik Matti, the name of the new director who will handle the comeback of superhero movie, “Darna” was finally revealed.
KAMI learned that Erik announced that he is quitting as the director of the much-awaited movie starring Liza Soberano.
The disclosed reason for his resignation was the creative difference between him and the production company of the film.
Now, a new award-winning director will facilitate the comeback of the iconic superhero and will put his creative touches on it.
Direk Jerrold Tarog was tapped to replace Erik and be at the helm of making a “Darna” movie for the present generation.
Jerrold is known for his biographical films including Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.
"ABS-CBN and Star Cinema are grateful to Artikulo Uno Productions for graciously allowing Jerrold to do the project. We welcome Jerrold’s fresh take, innovative ideas, and signature directorial style to make Darna’s return to the big screen a rare cinematic experience for moviegoers," said in a statement issued by ABS-CBN.

Born on May 30, 1977, Jerrold is a Filipino film director, screenwriter, producer, editor, and composer. He already won several Best Director awards in Cinema One Originals, Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, and Gawad Urian.
