- Multi-awarded director Erik Matti expressed his resignation from the upcoming movie, “Darna”
- Star Cinema declared that it was creative differences that made Erik quit
- Despite the incident, the said production company promised to announce the new director soon
Award-winning filmmaker Erik Matti already expressed his decision to resign as the director of the much-anticipated movie, “Darna.”
KAMI learned that Erik was tapped to facilitate the comeback of the said iconic film which will be featuring actress Liza Soberano.
However, in a statement issued by ABS-CBN, the said director and the production company that will handle the project both agreed to have a different director for the film.
One of the reported reasons why Erik decided to quit is the creative difference between him and Star Cinema.
Another factor that made the promising director resign from his post is to have focus on other projects that he handles under his own production house, “Reality Entertainment.”
"ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and director Erik Matti have mutually decided to part ways in the filming of Darna because of creative differences and to allow the filmmaker to work on his other projects under his own production company Reality Entertainment," the network quipped.
Despite the resignation of the original director, Star Cinema still promised to bring the iconic superhero to the big screen for the benefit of moviegoers of this generation.
It also expressed that the public will surely know soon the new director that will bring back and even give new touches to the character of Liza.
“ABS-CBN and Star Cinema, however, are fully committed to bringing the iconic character to the big screen for today’s generation of moviegoers to witness the story of the well-loved Pinoy comics superhero,” the Kapamilya network said.
“The new Darna director will be announced soon,” it added.
It can be remembered that the director of the upcoming Marawi film also resigned from his position because of the same reason.
In a previous article by KAMI, Erik bravely reacted to bashers who are saying that Liza does not deserve the “Darna” role.
Born on December 21, 1970, Erik is a Filipino filmmaker who is known for directing multi-awarded films such as On The Job, Honor Thy Father, and Seklusyon. He received several Best Director awards in PMPC Star Awards for Movies and in Metro Manila Film Festival.
