- President Duterte has admitted going through gastrointestinal procedures
- The Palace said it was nothing serious and it was just a regular check-up
- However, Anakpawis Rep. Ariel Casilao did not buy it and requests for results
It has been reported that President Rodrigo Duterte underwent both colonoscopy and endoscopy last week as part of his “routine”.
KAMI has learned that President Duterte had to go through these gastrointestinal procedures for he has Barret’s esophagus.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the public should not make a big deal out of it. He said that if President Duterte is going through a serious illness, he will not let the people know about his gastrointestinal procedures.
“The President is transparent. Iyong mama nga ilang beses ng sinabing gusto na nga niyang iwanan iyong posisyon niya ‘no,” Roque said in a report by GMA News.
Roque even said that the President will resign once he is “dying or gravely ill”.
However, the Anakpawis party list Representative Ariel Casilao did not buy it. Casilao demands to see the result of President Duterte’s colonoscopy and endoscopy.
He emphasized how President Duterte should be transparent with his health. He said, people cannot be blamed for being curious.
“Ang sa atin lang, gusto lang natin malaman. Karapatan din natin malaman kung ano ba talaga ang kanyang estado sa pamamagitan ng bukas-loob, boluntaryong paglahad,” Casilao added.
Casilao stated that it is the President’s obligation to let the public know about his current state, most especially when it comes to his health.
“Obligasyon yan ng ating pangulo, ng ating gobyerno na maging bukas, maging sa kanyang kalagayan pangkalusugan,” the Anakpawis representative said.
As previously reported by KAMI, in accordance with 1987 Constitution Article VII Section 12, the President should be transparent when it comes to his health.
“In case of serious illness of the President, the public shall be informed of the state of his health. The members of the Cabinet in charge of national security and foreign relations and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, shall not be denied access to the President during such illness.”
