The Miss Universe Organization finally broke its silence over the eligibility issue of Miss Universe Spain Angela Ponce in the prestigious pageant.
KAMI learned that Angela is a transgender woman who was crowned to represent Spain in the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand on December 17.
The transgender beauty queen always receives criticisms regarding her eligibility to the contest because of not being a natural-born woman.
Some netizens said that the prominent Miss Universe pageant should only be for natural-born women and that there should be a separate pageant for LGBTQ+.
However, in a video uploaded by the Miss Universe Organization, 75 official candidates were introduced including Miss Spain.
This only means that the said organization allows Angela to compete and vie for international crown in the said pageant.
Miss Spain appeared 35th in the 3-minute video which also showed the Filipina pride Catriona Gray.

Because of the confirmation, Angela will make history as the first transgender woman to participate in Miss Universe pageant.
It can be remembered that our very own Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach commented on the participation of transgender woman in the pageant.
She said she doesn’t have any problem with that since transgender woman also have the capability to win the crown.
"It is allowed in Miss Universe. You can compete, you can win. You don’t have to be a natural-born woman to win Miss Universe," Pia remarked.
In a previous article by KAMI, a candidate in Miss World Philippines also agreed to let transgender queens join in international pageants that are usually for women.
Aside from being the first transgender woman to walk on the stage of Miss Universe, Angela is also the first LGBTQ+ member to be crowned Miss Universe Spain.
