- Palace quickly defended President Duterte’s negative remarks to the priests
- Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the President’s jokes should not be taken “literally”
- He added that President Duterte was not serious when he made the joke
In a press briefing yesterday (Monday), Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has reminded the people that President Rodrigo Duterte did not mean all of his jokes.
KAMI has learned that reports have been going around about the collapsed church building in Barangay Ucab in Itogon, Benguet. As previously reported by KAMI, President Duterte blamed the priests for the incident.
Duterte said, “Alam mo, sir, sa totoo lang, kung pinalitan ninyo ‘yung pari diyan, hindi magbagsak ‘yang simbahan na ‘yan,” in a press briefing last Sunday.
The President even said cursed words pertaining to the priests and called them “bobo”. However, he made sure that he would visit the church.
As reported by Manila Bulletin, the Palace quickly defended the President. As per Spokesperson Roque, “Ang tingin ko naman po hindi naman po seryoso ang Presidente,” he reminded everyone not to take the President’s words “literally”.
Roque even added that the collapsed church building is owned by a mining company that is now used by United Church of Christ of the Philippines. He said, “I belong to that protestant denomination. It is not a Catholic Church,”
