Daniel Matsunaga recently celebrated receiving a Ph.D. in Humanities, major in Social Work from the Brethren Evangelical School of Theology (BEST).

KAMI learned that Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Officer-In-Charge J. Prospero de Vera III has announced that the honorary degree is invalid since BEST does not have a permit and the credentials to grant it.

In a report by GMA-7 News, BEST has not yet applied for a permit to operate and that it is not recognized as a higher education institution (HEI).

Only HEIs which have existed for at least 25 years can grant such a degree.

This means that BEST violated the CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 19 when they granted Daniel the doctorate degree.
