- In an interview with Atty. Salvador Panelo, Pres. Duterte blamed Noynoy Aquino for granting amnesty to Sen. Trillanes
- The President insisted that former President Aquino should have done it himself
- Instead, Aquino just designated someone to sign on the certificate of amnesty
Yesterday, September 11, President Duterte has addressed the nation in a one-on-one interview with Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo at the Palace.
The President was able to cover most of the national issues happening right now such as inflation, Bangsamoro Law, military forces, war on drugs, telecommunication, importation, TRAIN Law, ‘Build Build Build’, rice supplies, and of course, the revocation of Sen. Antonio Trillanes’ amnesty.
KAMI has learned from PTV News that according to the President, granting Senator Trillanes was “one of the glaring mistakes of the Aquino administration. He said that it was “totally wrong” for former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III to just grant the amnesty through a proclamation.
President Duterte said that Aquino should not have assigned former defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin to sign on the certificate of amnesty. Instead, Aquino should have done it himself because “an act of pardon or amnesty is an act of State".
Voltaire Gazmin has been considered as the President’s “very good friend”, however, Duterte insisted that Gazmin was “protecting Aquino”.
In a previous report by KAMI, the President’s way of addressing the nation has been modified. At first, it was said to be press conference. But, an hour before the scheduled event, it was announced that it will be a one-on-one interview with Panelo and only PTV-4 was allowed to cover it.
