The winds of Typhoon Mangkhut, or Ompong, once it enters the country’s area of responsibility, has gained strength, according to recent updates from PAGASA.
“Typhoon ‘Mangkhut’ has further intensified while continuing to move westward.
“Location of Center (8:00 AM today)
“The eye of Typhoon "MANGKHUT" was located, based on all available data, at 1,845 km East of Southern Luzon (OUTSIDE PAR)(13.9°N,141.3°E),” PAGASA tweeted.
The weather bureau also tweeted that Manila is one of the locations in Luzon that will experience heavy rains tomorrow, September 12.
KAMI previously reported that PAGASA has debunked the text messages which spread yesterday that the typhoon is packing 260 to 300 kph, stating that the exact strength has not yet been determined.
However, Mangkhut has the potential to be a super typhoon as it could pack 250 kph as it gets to Northern Luzon, according to ABS-CBN News.
