- In an interview, General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa confirmed that he will run as senator in 2019
- Dela Rosa said that his candidacy was advised by President Duterte
- He was also endorsed by Sara Duterte Carpio's regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago
On Monday, September 3, KAMI learned from Rappler that in an interview after the flag ceremony at the New Bilibid Prison, Muntilupa City, dela Rosa commented on the issues regarding his senatorial bid.
The former Philippine National Police (PNP) said, “Inanunsyo na ng Presidente. Sinabi sa 'kin ng Presidente, tumakbo ako. Eh di tatakbo ako,”
Last May 2018, dela Rosa has made a statement that he would like to run as senator. He said, “Ako, Senado, kung ako'ng masusunod ah,”
However, that time, he has not decided yet because he was waiting for President Duterte’s approval on whether he should run as a senator or governor in his home province, Davao del Sur.
Bato dela Rosa has been endorsed by Hugpong ng Pagbabago. It is the regional party sphere headed by the President’s daughter and Davao City Mayor, Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Since then, dela Rosa has been honest with his loyalty to President Duterte. He stated, “As I have said, I am willing to serve under him up to my last breath. Hindi ako aayaw, hanggat kinakailangan niya ako,”
